A program like XAT Image optimizer for OS X

Hi folks, does anyone know of an editing program like XAT, nice and simple and always compresses the pics without loss of quality, iPhoto is awkward to use to resize pics, and it doesn't compress them well.

The best FREE version is a program called GIMP (requires X11 off the OS X installation DVD to be installed)

It's widely considered to be as good as Photoshop, but if you just want a simple solution why not visit the Apple site and download some image resizing applescripts?

I've used them before, and they're usually bound to the right-click contextual menus

Never been able to stand GIMP to be honest though, tried it on the PC but just went back to photoshop, looks like even more of a PITA just to get the thing installed on OS X.

Anyone else got some suggestions?
