ok it concerns the OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz @ 4.00GHz Max / Asus Rampage II Extreme Intel X58 Motherboard / Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz DDR3 Bundle

If i was to ask over clockers to do the same sort of bundle but replace the Ram with Corsair Dominator GT 6GB Would this be a waste of money or not make any effect at all ???. Just feel id like the better ram if i had the option and it made a difference. I dontfully understand the ways to overclock but am readign up but thaught it would be best to ask rather than try myself yet.

Consensus on here is that the patriot is awesome. I don't know if they'd change the ram for you, can't hurt to ask.

Id suggest not getting it pre overclocked and clocking it yourself. I would also be looking atthe UD5 instead of the asus board.

ive been looking atthe UD5 board and i did see it will go well with dominator but i am new to overclocking thou i do understand the basics its jsut a case of getting the guts to do it :). Is the UD5 really better than the rampage or jsut better value for money as the rampage does seem to have a lot of stuff.

I have to agree with JonJ on this.

The UD5 is a great board and if you want to save some money the UD3 is fantastic value and even has SLi.

The UD3/5 have proven clocking credentials and the patriot memory sits very nicely in either one when heavily clocked. OcUK are turning out loads of these setups so the combination is very well tested.

Get your hands dirty and buikd it yourself - you'll get all the help you could possibly need on these forums.

Hell no, I'm not going to say one board is better than the other. They are different. I'm not going with Asus again after a very long and difficult rma process which ended up with me having a Gigabyte board. Milton keynes rma for the win.

The rampage has loads of stuff with it, but doesn't overclock as far. Its a case of working out what you want from the motherboard then getting the one which is closest to your list. If the UD3 didn't have 4 ram slots I'd have been very tempted by that one.

Overclocking is a lot of algorithms, executed with varying levels of understanding. It tends to be really easy for the first increase in speed then get increasiningly difficult as speeds increase. Everyone and his dog seem to have a 4ghz i7 on here, so it can't be that tricky.

This is why i have bought Gigabyte and will continue to do so until ASUS get their rma act together - and i'm a long time user and fan of ASUS.

How did the insane build for your friend turn out?

Oddly enough i was about to reply to your other thread (the one with the aesthetically pleasing lump of copper pic ;)) as i noticed the question there.

Plus, I've been following your 'hybrid water cooling thread' and wondered if you planned on experimenting with your new kit? I'll post in the other thread - give me ~30 minutes - just finishing off some work.

justout of interest why over clock myself ?. ive looked atthe UD5 an now i feel maybe i should get that intead :). same sort of thing but why not get it over clcoked professinally meanign les to go wrong ?. And should i add an new processor or ram in the future then all i really need to do is reset the bios as clearly i will need new settings if i add more ram.

If i was to buy seperate bits i would be tempted to rreplace the cooler with the corsair water cooling rig maybe as maybe its a good choice.

OCUK will let you swap thing's in the bundle's, l just did it this mourning replaced Noctua with the H50 + TIM to MX-5, the UD5 is better value and well proven go UD5. As usual great service from OCUK cheer,s.

The main benefits are that it saves you money and you gain valuable experience about your PC that helps troubleshoot problems in the future and ultimately saves you more money when guarantees run out. Plus, once you've done one build, all future upgrades and builds will be a very simple process (fault free parts permitting).

Having said that, building a PC is not for everyone - and if you feel you would get more enjoyment out of a pre-built system due to ease and peace of mind then the OcUK bundle is a safe and quality choice.

If you do decide on a home build then the UD5 is a great starting point coupled with the patriot memory. The Corsair H50 (i think you’re talking about) is getting very good reviews but a lot of us are waiting for long term feedback - but initial user response is very encouraging.

Also, if you do build - there are always forums members lurking who will be more than happy to offer any advice or help so the process isn't quite so daunting. And once the rig is built and stable we can even help you get it clocked to the magic number of your choice - within reason ;)
