hi peeps...

just a quick question... acronis true image home 10 wont load from the bootable cd that i normally use (seems to be an incompatability problem with my DFI Dark mobo...) - anyway, just wondering if you get the same effect if you do it from the main program within windows? i've always been dubious about using the program while windows is running...

is there any difference in the image that is created? doing it from a third party perspective (boot media) always seemed the best way to go but that choice has been eliminated for me until they bring out the next update patch (maybe)...

anyone know about stuff like this?

If you attempt to do a full recovery using the program within Windows, it'll ask you to reboot the computer and it'll do it on the next boot. It has the same effect as using the boot CD.

so its just as accurate and effective as using the boot disc then? is it actually superiour in any way i.e. anything more you can do in the windows environment vs the boot disc version?

Basically if you're doing a full recovery of the Windows partition it wont do anything within windows, it'll just just tell you to press the "reboot now" button. Then it'll automatically load the Acronis recovery program when the computer reboots. It's exactly the same as using the CD. Just as effective and accurate.

I've been using Acronis TI since version 6, never used the CD at all. Always used the reboot function from the program in Windows. Never had a problem. Give it a try.

p.s. I've only ever done a full recovery of the C: drive, I've never recovered individual files. Maybe it will recover individual files without rebooting, I'm not sure. The same is probably true if you're doing a full recovery of a non-active partition, i.e. not the C: drive.

im guessing your using raid. the Bootable Rescue Media only works on some raid controllers. my raid controller doesn't work on the Acronis Disk Director Suite rescue media but it works on Acronis True Image Home rescue media..

have u tryed Bootable Rescue Media Builder?

ahh right well thats all good to know :)

the only thing that puzzles me is how on earth it can make a 1:1 image while within the environment its creating a copy of...

things change within windows almost on a minute to minute basis so how does it pull this off out of interest? its all very clever :p

You'll have to ask the makers of the program for that one. I don't know how the program works under the bonnet, all I know is it works :D

to be honest i don't backup windows vista within the environment because when i restore it and rreboot it says the system didn't shutdown correctly..

When you make an image within Windows, the best thing to do is leave the computer alone. I usually leave it on and go away for 15mins while it makes the image. That way you reduce the possibility of there being errors. I've always done it this way and I've never had a problem.

Whenever i've used acronis to make an image from within windows, when i try to boot the recovered system the login page appears with just the logo and no user names (xp)

never had too many issues but yeah making that image during windows operation can be glitchy... its really better to restart the pc and then just run that after 5-10 minutes the image is done it should be more stable and better.

Version 10 is now working fine with Vista as well :)

i always 'feel safer' doing it from the live cd, instead of in windows itself, but i've never had any trouble doing it within windows :) (even when using the pc)

There is one problem with only being able to start the restore process from within Windows, and that is, you can't restore a drive if you are unable to boot into Windows, so it would be a good idea to try and sort the boot CD issue.
