A question about cancellations notice of contract

I'm wondering if anyone can answer this.

If you have a yearly renewing contract with a business how legit is it that they require 'x number of days' prior to renewal to cancel the rolling contract?

In other words if the service is renewed automatically and you try and cancel it later than the required x number of days lead time, should you be allowed? Particularly if it's clear you have not been using the service.

This is for a web hosting service.

Is such a contract/sale of service covered by the The consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 which states the consumer is allowed a 'cool off' period?
