A question about PSU extension cables

I was just wondering.
I watched
@ 3:20 or so onwards he mentions the voltage drop on the cables etc being managed by older psu designs in an analogue way. Then he mentioned that "we know how long the cables are" etcetc.

That got me thinking.

Does using psu cable extensions such as the bitfenix alchemy introduce voltage irregularities such as drops or ripple?

Could they affect, for example, GPU overclocks?

I may just be looking for an excuse to get an AX850 with the upgrade cables here, lol.
 
Cables and connectors do introduce small voltage drops. It's minimised by using copper cable of sufficient diameter and tinned brass terminals. Cables won't introduce ripple. Ripple is caused by the power supply not adequately regulating and smoothing the incoming AC into nice flat DC.

I haven't watched the video though so cant comment really on if what they are talking is just marketing rubbish or is routed in fact.

Just watched it anyway.

I suppose the power supply could measure the resistance on the cable and work out it's voltage drop using Ohm's law. It would need some form of processor to do this digitally. It can be done with Analog components too but would be quite complex.

Looks like a decent power supply though.
 
probably is a decent psu but I wasn't really interested in buying one, just got thinking that maybe the voltage drop introduced by cable extensions could be harmful to gpu overclocking when you're right on the limits?
