A question about saving in Prototype

What's the point of manually saving when it makes you do the mission from the last checkpoint?

I saved right after I talked to mercer's girlfriend/wife, died in it doing something stupid, wasn't too worried as I knew I'd be back where I wanted to just as soon as I loaded my save but instead I find myself on front of my sisters apartment just before activating the next mission which was to go get Karen.

I thought it was a bit crap tbh, controls were awful

have to agree. the game does have some nice features and tricks to it, cant say the controls were awful though...

Also agree about the controls. I've had no problem whatsoever.
