A question about using another slot for my AMD 7850HD Graphics card.

My Sapphire 7850 HD is currently in the x16 PCIE slot, with it being in that slot it covers all the PCI Express x1 slots which restricts me a bit.

Can the graphics card go in the PCIE X8 slot, if so would i notice any reduction in performance if it did ?

I'm not a gamer btw, i mainly use the PC as a media PC for watching films, editing and burning videos etc etc.

Your PCIe x1 cards should work in any PCIe slot, be it x16, x8, x4.

PCI-E 1x cards definitely work in any sort of PCI-E slot.

So i can run the Sapphire 7850 HD graphics card in the x 8 PCIE slot without any problems or loss of performance ?

I need the PCI-E 1x slots for a sound card, as you can see it has to go in one of those x1 slots. At the min the graphics card and air cooler are covering all the pcie x1 slots so could do with moving the graphics card.

No, you can put the soundcard in to any PCI-E slot. The soundcard will work fine in the 8x slot, so leave the graphics card where it is and put the soundcard in the 8x slot.
