A question for owners of a Gigabyte Aurora

Hi all,

I'm seriously considering getting this case (but unsure which to get first out of this and the Belinea 20" monitor) as i like the looks of it, seems to have good reviews and i would like the space inside.

What i want to know is whether it's easy to install the mobo seeing as it doesn't have a removable mobo tray? Is there enough space so as you don't have to take out any other components to put new ones in? That's one of the main reason why i want to upgrade from my current (crappy £20) case as i have dificulty installing the mobo or adding hard drives etc.

It is big enough to do that, if it was not I would be very worried ;)

Its a good case, not completely to my personal style but if it is up your street then there are not many you could get which are any better.

However have you considered a Akasa Eclipse, acres of space and a great case. Only downside of the entire case is the plastic front.

Coming from a £20 case anyone you purchase will be a major step up :)

Yeh i forgot to say, i won't be able to stand a plastic front. I've had enough of my current one :p
 
Everyone is expecting it, so I will live up to the reputation, how about a Lian Li :p

One thing to remember is the possibility that the case may resonate, especially worth remembering that seen as you have a raptor.

You may want to consider putting it into a form of aluminium noise supression enclosure.

I could see it coming :p

My seagate is more likely to resonate the case than my raptor, its loud as hell :eek: i'll probably look into getting some rubber mounts for it.

Yeh i was trying to find the guide for the bungee method but couldn't find the thread. I think it might have been deleted a while back.

Got a link to any guides on hwo to do it?

Cheers, i couldn't find a guide myself when i searched for it. It does look like the safer and easier way to do it though.
 
No worries, although im having a job finding the guide, as the site where one used to be no longer is there :(

I will check later this evening and see if I can find anything.

I picked up one of these cases yesterday but have not opened the box yet lol.

Build will hopefully start thursday evening,will post back with my findings.

Currently using a Lian Li.... ;)

Just recently bought one of these myself. I used to have a coolermaster wavemaster. The fans had become quite noisy so when I saw the aurora with 3x120mm fans I just splurged. I must say that I'm very happy with it :) . Installation was a breeze even though I was used to the removable m/b tray with my wavemaster. The noise difference from the fans was astounding, they are virtually silent but like others have already mentioned the noise from my raptor was immediately noticable. I could barely hear the raptor over the fans in my wavemaster :rolleyes: .

The wavemaster had a heavier aluminium construction whereas the aurora is a lot lighter so thats where the problem lies. I'll be ordering a silentmaxx hd silencer soon so hopefully that'll sort it.

Other stuff worth noting is that my case,cpu and gpu temps dropped signifcantly, probably due to the increased airflow. All in all a very nice case to work with.

Thanks for your comment :)

As i said earlier, my raptor is quieter than my seagate so that won't really matter. Also, my current case doesn't have a removeable mobo tray so i wouldn't be too bothered with the aurora seeing as it has some great features to make up for it.
 
I have been having a wiring nightmare this evening trying to get it neat.

Have given up for now but will carry on friday night.

Initial impressions so far

The aluminium is much thinner than the Lian Li case I have.

Would have liked a removable psu mount like a Lian Li

The drive mounting system is good(only put HDs in so far)

Disassembly is quick and easy.

Loads more room than my PC65

minor warning (should be obvious too)

The Silentmaxx enclosure whilst good on killing noise/vibrations ramps the heat up quite badly - my WD was running at close to max temp (55C) when under load.

One night it hit 53C and I took it all apart there and then - far too hot !

I havent actually powered it up yet as I said earlier I have been having fun with cable management(OCZ 600W Adj Sli is a pig to sort)

The logo side of things was easy as we had some transparencies at work so I made a few up yesterday and printed them off.Hopefully it will look quite cool.

The case only cost me £70 so if I dont like it or need to mod it I will sell it or break out the Dremel and mod it to how I want.
