A question to pc gamers

I got a question to you fellow pc gamers. what makes you think that developers should develop lots of pc exclusive games?

When the xbox360 that gets the most software sales hasn't got a single good exclusive in 2009 so far.

When the xbox360 shares most of its good games with the pc.

When most traditional ps3 games that have sold millions and millions on the ps1 or ps2 have become multi platform games.

When lots of developers that used to focus on one system develop for all systems this generation.

When multi platform games sell as much as 3 times the amount of exclusives.

Seriously get over it . This is the generation of multi platform games and has almost nothing to do with the state of pc gaming. there are still a few exclusives and the pc platform gets a good amount of them.

I, for one, don't think they SHOULD develope a load of PC exclusive games. They can do what they want.

The type of game I am interested in, MMO's, tend to be PC/MAC specific due to their somewhat more complex nature.

If you actually read it, you wouldve realised its not a joke thread. Some decent points in there which answer some of the questions you ask.

Actually i think what many people, especially on this board, don't like about multi-platform gaming is the risk of bad porting.

We all know that the potential in terms of graphical and processing power is far greater in a modern pc than a two year old console. However, when we see the requirements for games as GTA IV, something seems amiss.

Another excellent example is the original HALO. Not been a problem for a very long time, but on release, the PC version had -major- issues with certain hardware.

EDIT:
they shouldn't bother releasing first person shooters on console, it's just pointless
This too :D

Premature. You came too soon, you're meant to wait until people actually answer before attempting to refute their points. Don't worry, I've heard it's a common problem.

out of my thread idiot. you got nothing to offer

yes but pc games play in much higher resolutions, frames and AA. thats already a big advantage over the console versions. GtaIV was ONE bad port but still better than the blurry mess with sub 25 fps that consoles got.

Big topic. Easier to write for 360 than PC due to hardware compatibility issues. Piracy also must play a significant part. I don't think developers 'should' necessarily develop more for consoles but increasingly they will. Where's that John Carmack link....2008 keynote iirc might shed a little light on it. When major developers like I.D. software put more efforts to supporting consoles then you know the industry is changing somewhat.

i dont really bother with joke threads.

Funny really as there are some far better articulated arguments in that 'joke thread' than you have presented here. Read the article in the op and you'll see it makes an interesting point and, largely, an accurate one.

what do you mean? all future id games will appear on Pcs as well as consoles. I'm fine with that considering that we got Resident evil 5, Street fighter 4, Devil may cry 4, metal gear sold rising etc. all traditional console games coming to Pc gamers this generation. yet you dont see console gamers complaining...

yes an article about software sales based solely on america retail sales that dont include digital distribution sales, MMOs etc. very interesting i must say... a perfect flamebait! Furthermore, its called "Who killed pc gaming". pc gaming is dead already, i must have missed it.

They will be supporting the PC platform but they have said that it isn't their main focus like it used to be. I, like yourself, still think that there are great games to be enjoyed on the PC platform. Just hope it remains that way and doesn't dwindle down to only a sporadic few.

I certainly don't think that they should release PC exclusives. My view is that if the developers make games for multiple platforms then it spreads the risk involved in developing for the PC. Everybody knows that there are illegal downloads aplenty for PC games, and virtually eveybody knows how to get a hold of them. Take Operation Flashpoint 2 for example. I'm glad they are releasing it on the consoles as well. I think it will make a lot of sales, and many more than if it was only released on the PC. Obviously higher sales encourages the developers to make a sequel, or to carry on developing newer products in contrast to a developer who would make a PC exclusive but then see it suffer due to piracy etc.

yes thats exactly my point. every ps3 owner wants ps3 exclusive games, every xbox360 owner wants xbox360 exclusives games and so on. They need that to justify their purchase as well. However, developers are in to make money. exclusive games are mostly a thing of the past and there will be fewer and fewer in the future for all platforms as development costs increase.

Yup. Would be commercial suicide not to develop for a number of platforms so I can see why they spread their resources and focus on the 360 for example. The current generation of consoles are a significant improvement over the last so you can have, in most cases, the whole PC game equivalent.

you also need to keep in mind development costs that have dramatically increased compared to previous generations.

I, like you, welcome multi platform releases. Just because say, Crysis 2 for example is released on an Xbox360 doesn't mean that I HAVE to buy it for that platform. The same for any other type of game. Everybody knows that shooters and strategy games work a lot better with a true analogue device like a mouse, but just because people enjoy them with a gamepad as well doesn't mean that they should be bashed for appearing on consoles as somebody did earlier up in this thread. They in fact help the PC gaming market by appearing on multiple platforms to allow the monetary foundations to be set by the improved sales that developing on multiple platforms produces.

. Piracy also must play a significant part.

piracy is just a developers way of saying "up yours pc gamers" we make more money of the console market, i mean how many people do you know who have their console chipped.

its utter rubbish when devs come out with the piracy excuse.
