Hi folks,

I have just upgraded to a SM2232 22" widescreen TFT from a 17" CRT. My question is, will running at the non native res damage my monitior?
I know the sticky says its best to use the native res for clearer picture, but until I get my 8500GT I can't manage the 1680X1050 res in high detail in games. I like to run in 1024x768 4FSAA on. If I run at this res will i "damage" my monitor in anyway?

many thanks folks

Nope! It just means it may look a little cack... that's all! :)

When my mate got a Dell 3007wfp he only had an x1900xt so ran it at 1280x800 instead of the 2560x1600 and it was perfectly fine. Looked rather good actually! ;)

You wont damage it, native resolutions are what the panel uses as a 1:1 scale therefor every pixel has a individual usage, rather than a cluster at a non native resolution.

i dont think an 8500gt will be very good at that res in the high detail you mention.

it looked good because the res you used was exactly half that of the native res.if it hadn't been exactly half, then it WOULD have looked cack.

Wondered how long it would take someone to notice that! ;)

However, monitors with decent scalers do better. The Hyundai i've got at present has an ace one. I ran 3DMark06 earlier today and thought it was running at a higher res than normal. Finished the test and it stated it had been @ 1280x1024.

My Fujitsu Siemens Scales quite well, but i'm a stickler for definition (i can't stand things that aren't in focus)

anyway, you should have seen the panels in IBM laptops scaling to non-default resolutions. (yikes, talk about jaggies  )
