Hypothetical question but just happened on the LinuxSat Forums.

If I was to go around another OCUK members house and login with my username & password on their computer could we both be banned from here?

IP address is irrelevant with login, I can log in at home or in wetherspoons or on the street with 3g and no problems.

I presume if there is a suspicion of people using multiple accounts that the IP address logs are looked at, but otherwise they aren't.

Both accounts using the same IP tripped the system firewall;
sexgod and princealbert,
sexgod account was created 08.2013
This does not weigh in your favour towards considering reinstatement.

I was at princealbert's house last saturday afternoon fixing his satellite box and logged in.

What made you pick that over princealbert?

A forum seems to have banned you because a pretty simple explanation (that you're helping someone out who is also a member) doesn't make sense to them, and they have no other suspicions. Living up to the Linux user stereotype.

It should not really matter providing login details are correct.

Example...

My missus creates a OCUK login on my PC on the same network ( not that she would in a million years).

So therefore the is two accounts or two associates to that ip address, why would OCUK flag it up????

I need to get network savvy. :(

I imagine they wouldn't care unless they are only ever logged in at different times and the two accounts are used to pile onto the same posters in an argument or just generally being a nuisance.

Must be MAC / I.P combination?

I use this tool at work called Iovation and it can tell me everything, even down to the screen resolution being used and browser build version. It can see behind spoofed I.P addresses as well as well as probable location.

No idea knows how much it costs the Company.

IP history nowadays is mostly irrelevant, especially the way the big ISPs assign the IP blocks. I'm on a dynamic IP, yet in the last year have been assigned the same IP 4 times from BT, sometimes months apart.

It gets worse, it's as though they can't think for themselves -

I'm fixing his VU+, he gave me his laptop to use, why would he know where I was going on his laptop when he's outside fixing his car?

(Another Mod) Three days ago this ex-user didn´t even know who Prince Albert was !!
Let alone that it is now claimed he is actually his son-in-law´s father!!!!!

Once again why would I know who Prince Albert was?
Do people go around telling everybody who they are on different forums?
It was only when I was racking my brain that I realised when I'd logged into Linuxsat, where I was and the username now made sense.

I've also asked why it's a problem for two people to login from the same IP.
I've told them to Google the two usernames and they will not match except on their forum.
I've told them to look at my IP address and the one I logged in from on that Saturday.
What bloody amateurs.
