a quick question about win7

im planning to buy it when its released but id like to know something first
i know there are differences in the version but would any of them affect games performance or the look of the os?

i was going to get Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate E but after looking at the price difference im tempted to just get Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium E instead
am i right in thinking that the ultimate version is aimed more for offices and people on large networks? :confused:

another thing i would like to know is if that includes both a 64 & 32 bit os? as its not mentioned on the website what version it is

Ultimate is aimed at 'power users', people who want all the features and are happy to pay for it. Here's a good comparison of the different versions for you:

Businesses will go for the Professional edition, more often than not.

Rule of thumb is if you have to ask, go with Home. Ultimate and Pro have XP mode if that influences your choice, its all on that chart.

good advice

i was just worried that if i got the cheaper os i would miss out on some performance but it seems that the only thing i could be limited by is 16 GB of ram, thats not something i will have to worry about for a good few years anyway and by then the next os should be out

The majority of home users will be perfectly happy with Home Premium, a few will want Pro for features like XP Mode and very few need Ultimate.

Businesses will probably choose Professional and some Enterprise which is the same as Ultimate apart from the licensing and distribution.

Is there actually any point in XP mode when we have VMWare and Virtualbox etc? Surely they'll run on home premium, and most people around these parts will have an XP license kicking about.

For the individual who has an XP license it's probably not worth it, but for businesses who have been holding off moving to Vista because of compatibility issues then XP mode could be the killer feature.

Fair point, hence why the home premium version doesn't have it then, and why anything higher than that is overkill for pretty much everyone except professionals.
