I'm looking at changing my email account to Gmail but just looking at what the benefits are as I've seen that its a lot better than hotmail (Which I'm currently using) and I'm wanting to know whether it would be worth the switch and what benefits I would gain or what I would be losing.

I like to create folders to keep things separate, is this possible in Gmail?

Basically what I'm looking for is user experiences and what you like / dislike about using it :)

Thanks :) :D

You can't create folders, but you can create labels and assign them to the mail. It's very similar to a folder.

I can't fault Gmail, their spam filter is amazing.

Like the way it is good at filtering spam, like filters and the ability to label stuff automatically, like the way you can search for anything and find it within your emails, like the way it strings together emails in conversations.
Don't like the fact you can't email exe files.
I don't believe you can create folders but Labels work in pretty much the same way.

I really like gmail tbh, you should just set it up and try it out yourself. Set your hotmail emails to forward there.

Plus with google+ ect googling will be dominating the internets soon :D

GMail is excellent.

Alternatively you can buy your own domain (.co.uk's are about £3/year) and let Google power the email behind it giving you the email interface and all the rest of it as well. Having your own domain is the safest way to keep your email address forever.

I like the fact everything is more interconnected than in a Buddhist's mind :p

Everything I need can be logged into via gmail! (except OcUK ofcourse!)

I use Gmail but not the web interface. I use outlook 2010 and download all my emails that way. One of the good thigns is if you delete an email by accident the original is still on the Gmail server as I have it set up to not delete the emails once downloaded via POP. You also have the option of using IMAP.

Got to agreed with LiE the spam filtering is really good.

Been using Gmail since 2005 big fan of it and have always prefered it over hotmail. Great amount of storage and I really like the labels system to keep everything organised.

I wish I'd never started using it. I hate that if you're using IMAP and you delete a mail it only archives it.

This is made worse by the fact that you can't group and delete archived mails.
