I have XP on one partition and Vista OEM on an other, but my XP is now buggered so I need to re-install XP, but would that mess up the dual booting option I get when I turn on my PC?

yes the bootloader would be XP and not see vista< have a look at this http://apcmag.com/5485/dualbooting_vista_and_xp
you dont need to follow loading vista but the rest should apply or at least (Fixing the corrupt bootloader section) near bottom of this page
