A quick question on laptop RAM

Hi there, I have a Dell Latitude D505 and want to upgrade the RAM. Apparently it needs PC2700 2.5V 200-pin SODIMMs as replacements. However I can get PC5300 1.8V 200-pin SODIMMs for a much cheaper price. I hear that DDR is backwards compatible as far as speed goes but will the voltages be ok? Thanks for your time

2700 is DDR1 PC5300 is DDR2, If your D505 is a DDR1 based machine you can't use SDR, DDR2 or DDR3 for that matter. As far as the money side of things go yes DDR2 is stupidly cheap but it makes no difference if it doesn't work in your machine
