Hi guys

When cleaning old thermal paste on the CPU, should I leave the CPU in the motherboard or take it out?

Best to keep it in the motherboard. Easier to wipe the paste off as it is held down firm by the socket and no chance of bending pins (when reinstalling the CPU).

Is it best to use a cloth first to wipe away the thermal paste before using isopropyl alcohol for a clean finish?

I just start with a cloth dipped in isopropyl tbh, makes the job so much easier. However, if you want to wide off the majority with a dry cloth - that is cool too, it just takes a but longer.
