A quiet dvd drive ?

I have a Sony Optiarc AD-7260S , it is rather noisy.Is that just normal ? What is the quietest dvd drive out there ?

I think the Optiarc's are well known for being quite noisy... but DVD drives are often the loudest part of people's builds :S

all dvd drives will be about the same i reckon, i heard once that it depends on the quality of your media becuase a higher quality disc will have a rounded edge making less noise as it spins and cheap discs have a sqaure edge so make a lot of noise - but this might be rubbish

Nice theory, just looked at a Verbatim compared to a really nasty own brand ASDA, neither have rounded edges, but the actual circumference of the Verbatim is much smoother as if its been "punched out/cut" using a better machine.

the quietest of all: http://www.slysoft.com/en/virtual-clonedrive.html just rip dvds as ISO's then when you want to watch load them up and enjoy no drive noise another alternative if you have the use of another PC on LAN, share a DVD drive on a computer that's in another room and access it over LAN
