Anyone from Portsmouth?

I need help... I just phoned Shorties (brilliant little restaurant) and they're booked for some Party this friday night.

Anyone here knows of other decent place for a dinner date? Not overly-priced and relatively close from Portsmouth and Southsea Train station...

Also, anyone know if Friday Night's a good time to head to Clarence Pier?

Thanks.

There are quite a few nice curry and chinese places in the Parmaston Road area. Failing that, you could always try Gun Warf I suppose.

Southsea seafront is a bit of a dive to be honest. I've never been in the Time & Envy clubs down there, but there is normally a big group of chavs fighting at 2am.

Albert Road and the surrounding area has some cool pubs on, the One Eyed Dog being by favourite.

I'm not sure if this is the right week, but they have some excellent comedy nights at the Wedgewood Rooms, might be worth checking that out.

Franky and bennies in gunwharf was the last place i went to in portsmouth but i tend to stay clear of portsmouth.

Joanna's in Southsea! if it's still open take her there :p

Seriously, whats old pompey like now? It used to be pretty nice when I was down there, maybe an idea?

Yea, I might have to go there... was kinda a last min thing.

What about restaurants near Albert Road / Palmerston road? Any suggestions? Sorry, I'm Orient and I know all the Chinese Restaurants in Portsmouth but want to try someplace else this time.

go to..

Kitsch n Dor

..fantastic french place.. a little out of the way and you are advised to book.. but I've been there 5 or 6 times and the food is superb.

Nice romantic atmosphere and the bloke who runs it is a top chap who sat up llate one night and gave us free drinks while we digested. I've recommended it to loads of people and they have all loved it.. I'd guess about £30 / head for 3 courses

Rosies on Elm Grove?
Is that the restaurant at the Albert Road end of Elm Grove?
Hmm... all I saw on their menus were pasta pasta pasta, but thanks for the suggestion :)

Definitely check out the restaurants at Gunwharf, might be a little more expensive than normal but they are very nice and stylish. Otherwise check out whats down Albert Road, theres also a new place opened up on the corner of Kings Road which seems very posh and also very expensive!

Other than that, near Portsmouth & Southsea station there aren't that many nice places too eat as its all very studenty with weatherspoons and yates being the only real places to eat.

For the record, I'm a student... :D

I went around the place in Kings Road and saw... They serve Steak Tartare! Wow, but the pricing is abit too out of budget, I'm nearly skint, end of term...

The Vines bar, opposite the Theatre on Albert road is nice.

Wine Vaults has some good beer, which is next door.

Fistful of Taco's is good for mexican.

Gunwharf Quays is good, but can get a bit rowdy in the evenings, coz of the locals and students. Mostly fridays and Saturdays obviously, although Mondays too, because of Tiger, Tiger and Jongleurs mainly.

Don't recommend Rosies on Elm Grove, nasty, nasty food!!

Or Frankies & Benny's, thats my opinion though.

*Edit* Drinking wise, friendly places are Honest Politician, One Eyed Dog (Same owners) The Deco's nice, but has no personality really. The Registry is ok in a group, but beer tastes like **** and is generally very busy all the time. Route 66 aint bad to go to, very cheesy, hehe!
Stuff right near the Portsmouth & Southsea station aint too hot, Lloyds bar can be ok, DO NOT go in BAR ME.

Anywhere on that strip of road, weatherspoons etc just aint worth going in really, especially on a Friday. Again, thats my opinion.

Another vote for Rosie's. Simply devine food..although it's not as cheap as I'd like! Their Lamb shank is always very tasty :)

If you go to Vines you need to have the "Nachos Supreme" they are great.. It can get rammed in there sometimes though and I don't think u can book tables. I think the upstairs is closed at the moment so its hard to move on the weekends, but weeknights you will be fine.. Its cheap too.

Personally I'd aviod Gunwharf.. its generally expensive and impersonal.

IIRC you can book tables at Vines, and yes those Nacho's are immense, although sometimes you get a small portion and sometimes it can be absolutely huge! :D

I havent been there in a while so i dont know if the upstairs sections ok to go to

I live on the Seafront and yeah Time & Envy aint great to go to. Only go in big groups, which i guess is pretty obvious!

Never been in the other clubs along there.

EQ's AKA the Lounge is pretty small, but its ok-ish.

Keep meaning to try Chaos one weekend.

Man, these talk of tacos... it's making me crave for it :P

I might give fistfull of Taco a try - will pop in and have a look - after there, I'm thinking abit of bowling, not sure about clubbing (plus, I hate Time and Envy)
