Upgraded to windows 7 and now my nero wont work. I burn CDs and the occassional DVD. What is the best replacement for Nero? Any good free options?

I use imgburn for general ISO burning and ripping duties, works very well. As for DVD creation, Vista can do files but for DVD I end up using nero. Might be wrong, but I think windows 7 can create slideshows for DVD playback.

Can you be more specific as to what stuff you're burning?

Well i burn the occassional DVD video for my PS3 but thats about all. Just need something basic hence why i'm not going to pay £40 for a new nero (which isnt very good apparently).

I've never made a DVD movie with anything other than nero, though I expect that some license restrictions may prevent open source alternatives from being available. If someone can suggest something I'm open to that too, since I've also recently upgraded to 7 (who hasn't!). Don't particularly like nero either. Certainly not since about version 5 or 6!

I use imgburn for all burning

It has a simple interface, if you're using multiple folders with files from all over the drive, then use infrarecorder

if you're just burning one folder with subfolders or files, or one file, use imgburn

What version of Nero do you have, and exactly how is it not working?
I use Nero 7 32bit on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, and so far not had any trouble, can you elaborate?

Its an OEM i bought from OCUK. When i go to install it tells me that there are known problems with this program etc so i dont install. I'm running 64bit W7

Maybe worth installing it and seeing if it works. The "known problems" may be Nero-speak for "you haven't upgraded for a while".

I installed photoshop elements v4 and got the same warning ... after googling and getting some people saying it worked and some that it didn't I completed the install and it appears to work. Only issue found so far is the help system doesn't seem to be working.

W7 has a dvd burner built in , although it is rather slow compared to Convertxtodvd 3, which is awesomely fast btw
W7 also has built in ISO burning capabilities.but i generally use daemon tools or magic ISO

DVDflick is the best thing since sliced bread if you need to reencode the movies youll be sticking on a DVD.

costs nothing , handles every file type under the sun , small download and its very fast.

even adjusts the bitrate of the files so they fit on the cd, ive done some movies my wife did with her sony handycam and the quality was as good as if i was playing the videos on the tv straight from the camera

Ill always go with the concept of free is best :D

but in this case although DVD flick is free it is very slow,
nearly half the encoding speed of Convertxtodvd 3 :(
