Hey guys,

A friend bought me a new Lenovo Ideapad over tonight. Got it today, hadn't even opened it - hates Windows 10 so asked me to do a downgrade to 7. New media and I've tried DVD/USB, I get as far as installing and then I get the "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing" error...

Any ideas? It must be something to do with USB because I'm getting the error from an external USB DVD drive and a USB flash drive. Although both boot oddly?!

Help!

My gut tells me that this might be a Skylake/nvme missing driver issue. You might want to try either downloading all drivers (or export them from a successful Windows 10 install) and then integrate them in to a Windows 7 install iso.

Let us know how you get on.

Sure, it's a Ideapad 110-15IBR. There is 1x USB 2.0 and 1x USB 3.0 port.

Interestingly, both ports work in the Windows 10 desktop but in the bios I can only see the connected bootable flashdrive when its plugged into the USB 3.0 port :(

It'll boot but after the install screen I get the error.

Had this with work laptops before and it's a driver issue. Try using dism to add all the Win 7 drivers to the iso image using another computer. This might be of help.

Driver issue, usually caused by the lack of an AHCI driver for the Sata ports, swap the BIOS setting to legacy IDE if possible, if not you'll have to find the driver to make it available in the installation media.

Thanks people! Almost certain its a USB driver issue now... I just can't get my head round that fact that I'm able to get into the installation media (DVD/USB) but not go past the install menu. Admittedly, both sources are using the USB controller :D

Right, so I've got the USB 3.0 driver for the laptop, how can I integrate? I don't suppose there's anything around for 7 like there was for XP back in the day? nLite was it? I had some awesome, unattended installs for that...

This is Driver Issue, I had just solved it last night myself after countless tries. All you need is a correct AHCI Driver for the porst and then load them when prompted.

It will load the Driver and you can then continue

I downloaded mine from here https://downloadcenter.intel.com/ as the one that came with the MB would not work.

This is half my battle; when the missing driver error prompts me, I can't even browse to the DVD/USB isn't visible. I just get a Boot (X:) showing.

Is there a way of integrating the Intel Chipset .exe?

when did installing Windows 7 suddenly get so difficult?!

When Microsoft went from making money off windows licences, to making money from private user data. It's basically a Malware organisation now. In fact it's the biggest unmitigated malware operation in the history of computing.

For every machine out there running win 7 they just cant milk money from data collection/force installing candy crush every week to fake their Market stats, etc.

The list for blocking Windows 7 is absolutely endless. First it was the GWX Virus they deployed to ALL systems. Then windows update itself was turned into a virus designed to kill people's hard drives with infinite 100% access, in hopes of making people buy new Win10 PC. Some users have managed to fix that, But they are relenting, now they are trying to block drivers so they can install their own drivers to milk even more user data for selling to whoever wants to pay them for it.

The line needs to be drawn ffs. I have no idea why people are so compliant and bend over for M$. Its so easy to NOT use windows 10 and make them pull their fingers out.

Actually, it's not "just" and AHCI driver issue. This can also occur if the board is trying to load USB drivers and in doing so it drops power to the USB stick that is in the port. In that case, when you're on the select language and keyboard layout screen, whip out the USB stick and plug it back in.
