A Scanner Darkley

Saw trailers for this sometime ago. Looks mighty strange. Any idea on release date?

Getting pretty good reviews and...

"Dick fans and drug film lovers rejoice" apparently! :D

...referring to Philip K. Dick of course.

I read ages ago that they were making the film, so I re read the book and then wondered how they would handle all the drug references and paranoia. The film looks like one of Dick's strange parallel worlds. They have picked the right cast to express this subculture group :)

Looking forward to it; quite a fan of PKD's writing. Quite wary of how it's going to pan out, comparing the result of Minority Report vs Bladerunner. In the hands of the director, as ever.

Not read A Scanner Darkly, nor aware of the premise, but counds like it's bound to be a perfect blend of PKD's drug-induced perspective, dystopia and large periods of utter confusion at who's who and what's what. Never managed to complete V.A.L.I.S, just found it too hard going. Now Wait for Last Year and Game Players of Titan are two worth reading.

Really like the visual concept, and I'm I'm sure I'll enjoy it just for that nonetheless.

Not heard much about it, nor did i know that i was even based on a book.

But it looks like it could be very good, already got a decent score on Metacritic. (so it must be out in America already?)

Really looknig forward to this, even with Keanu in it. I've read the book, it's one of my favourites, and always wanted them to make a film out of it but could never think how they'd be able to do it. Well now they have :).

I've been keeping tabs on this loosely for a while now, eagerly anticipating it. Didn't realise the visuals were as they are, god damn that's cool. Bit of M83 in the trailer, too. Can't go wrong

Probably nothing more than a post-production filter.
No, it's traditional rotoscoping (tracing live film images frame-by-frame), but aided by a computer program. Frames are hand-drawn from the live action, and then multiple frames are automatically generated in between for smooth transitions between the hand-drawn frames. Like a big budget Flash movie, especially at 500 hours work per minute of animation .
