A Second Graphics Card...

Hi

I'm looking to get a second graphics card so I can keep my dual screen setup as well as use my Cintiq drawing tablet. I've found various problems with swapping the cable around, so I thought I'd get a second graphics card. The question I have is, is it possible to use two different graphics cards (not SLI or Crossfired)?

I don't want to pay for another 470 gtx, so I was thinking of buying a cheap single-slot card (all i'm doing is drawing, so I don't think it would require that much graphical power) to go in one of the other pci express ports on my motherboard, would this work?

Thanks

Yes it will work. Just add a low powered card and you can run the second monitor off it. What sort of problems are you having running the second monitor off the 470 with the primary?

It's not that I can't run the second monitor off of the 470, it's with the cintiq tablet (as it has a screen itself, and I also have a dual-screen setup so totaling 3 screens). When I take the cable out of the cintiq, it will never properly start up again for some reason and the stylus won't work properly without rebooting the computer and sometimes a driver reinstall as well. I don't know if it's just a thing with mine or not, but either way it should hopefully be solved by having a permanent connection.

Thanks

Ah I see what you mean, first time I've seen a tablet with a built in monitor :p. Then yes, an extra GPU will help solve the problem.

Awsome devices, great for drawing because you can see where on the screen you are touching. On their own they are quite pricey but there are a few websites where people have taken standard LCD monitors and combined them with a cheap tablet to create one.

I was lucky to get mine second hand, still cost a couple hundred pounds though :(. I'd never heard of people doing what you said there, but I'm certainly not surprised.

Ive got a Cintiq 12wx arriving tomorrow and I will have the same situation, a possible 3 monitor setup.

Which card would you recommend as a cheap add on to my gtx 460???? I was thinking of a Radeon 5450.

I have a gigabyte PS 35 -DS4 with a GTX 460 in the main PCI-E slot.....would that be ok for two gfx cards working in tandem for this scenario?
