Went all the way back in March for some sightseeing and was snapping away every single day. Just under 700 photos taken filtered down to my favourite 99 on Flickr. 20 posted here, full set - http://flic.kr/s/aHsjDf3P28

I was using my Nikon D90, Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, Nikkor 50 f/1.8 and Sigma 50-150 f/2.8, latter rarely. C&C welcome as always.

Very nice indeed.
I've been twice, but, only to the airport.

Is it the sort of place, where you need to hire a car to get around, or is a walkable/public transport type of place ?

Metro will be just fine getting you around most of the key areas and taxis from metro stations to places of interest, but both are very cheap. A hire car would be a bonus I suppose and cut down on travel costs. But I think part of the charm is using public transport; a lot to see and experience around you. Walking around the old town is a must; did them over 2 afternoons.

Definitely worth a visit in everyone's lifetime. I was there for 6 days I think and ticked off most of the places I quite fancied out from the Lonely Planet guide. 10 days would be ample. I didn't do any luxurious activities other than afternoon tea at the Burj-Al-Arab, but I had no idea if I was going to go back, so £50 for a fantastic 7 course meal and being allowed in with my camera was a fair price.
