6-0+1=?

Now at first glance this is 7....wait wait, let's go to the root! The original sum is 6-1x0+2/2. Now the order of operations dictates that brackets, index, division, multiplication, addition then subtraction is the order you work out this sum.

So 6 - (1x0) + (2/2)

= 6-0+1

But if you use BIDMAS (or BODMAS) should you not do the addition first which makes the sum 6-(0+1) making the answer 5?

Not so simple now? Hmmmm!

If John has 6 apples and takes none away then adds one more apple how many apples does John have?

or more complicated fashion

If John has minus no apples and adds 1 apple then adds another 6 apples how many apples does John have?

Not this BS again. The sum is written in such a way as to be ambiguous, with the result that idiots like us can waste all afternoon arguing it round and round in circles.

There's no ambiguity to it just badly taught rules of standard notation...

BIDMAS has the potential to be slightly confusing, Add/Subtract actually have equal priority so they are performed in the order they are written. The answer is 7.

Multiply/Divide are also equal to each other.
