Howzit Guys,

I've got a machine here that someone asked me to look at for them. Now the system is running okay, no real issues. However, when the user logs on to the system, on their account, two to three command prompt windows open and close very quickly. Now it doesn't give me time to read it or even get a screen shot of what it is running.

I did a scan with Ad Aware and Sbybot S&D. Still same problem. So I loaded a folder called "Anti Virus + Updates" off my 1 GB memory stick to use some other tools, however whenever I open that folder from the desktop it closes again.

So I decided to run HiJack This, however it won't run due to a missing DLL file. I then tried to open up Task Manager, but it just closes two second after I have opened it. This seems to happen with any Window I try to open on the computer.

Will try get, HiJack This working, but for now, does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this?

Any help appreciated!

Robbie.

Tried running them in Safe Mode?

Investigating the start-up programs list could prove fruitful :)

Yes, I have tried the Safe Mode option. Same story..:(

I can't see start up programs as whatever is running, just closes the Window.

Thanks for the reply.

what dll file? (i'm using my mum's pc at the moment and she has xphome so i'll upload the dll for you)

tried 'windows defender' it has a startup manager called "software explorer"

Almost certainly malware/virus infested. Run a full system scan with NOD32 or Kaspersky.

Do you have the option of reinstalling the OS?

Ja, they don't mind if I reinstall the OS, however I would rather have that as a last resort. I will suggest it to them though, and see what they say. I tried installing a few things, but will give NOD32 a try, any better spyware software other then the ones I have already tried?

Thanks for the help, guys! :)

Thanks, Bledd, but since reporting about the DLL file, I have yet be able to get the error message to come up again, will let you know if I find out which file.
