A Song of Ice & Fire Appendix Question

Could anyone tell me if it's safe to use the appendix while reading the book, or will it contain spoilers (e.g. deaths which I might not have read about yet)?

Is the appendix based on facts before the start of the book, or based on what happened during the book?

The appendix for any given book gives the situation at the beginning of the book, as far as I can tell. Thus anything which happens during that book will not be reflected in it. Obviously the appendix for each book does contain spoilers for previous books.

good luck, just finished the first and was such a huge read but brilliant. well worth reading weven if you've seen the series as it explains a lot that you dont see and has other twists not included in the series.
