Was wondering if you guys could help me. I've sold my old motherboard, cpu and ram, so it's time to buy some new bits.

Currently have an ATI Radeon 4870x2 I was hoping would last me at least another year or so, and a Corsair HX620 PSU, so I'm looking for a Motherboard, CPU, RAM and Heatsink for about the £350 to £400 mark. If the option to overclock is there, then I would be willing to do this to give me a performance boost. My old setup was an E6750(2.6ghz) clocked at 3.6ghz so I'm pretty accustomed to overclocking.

Any suggestion?

Cheers.

Sorry it's a mess, just copied and pasted from the Basket but you get the gist of it I hope! You can add more memory and upgrade the cooler if you wanted to max out your budget. Hope this helps!

I'd go for something like:

Definitely looking at an i5 for that budget. Motherboard depends, I went for a Gen3 board since you mentioned that you didn't want to upgrade your graphics card yet and with this board you have support for PCI-E 3.0 for compatibility with future cards. Ryan3's cooler is better than the Tranquilo but wasn't sure how much overclocking you intended etc. The Antec Kuhler 620 would be the better choice, but the i5's run pretty cool with almost any cooler.

I thinks its worth noting that they will only run at pcie 3.0 speeds if an ivybridge processor is used otherwise they will still be 2.1 slots.

THe board moody spec'd is however a great board so still get it :)
The gelid tranquillo is a great air cooler and in my opinion far exceeds its price range, you may however have to switch to low profile ram if you go down this route :)

Thanks.

Not going down the watercooling road again for a while, just sold all my old water cooling gear. My case isn't really setup for watercooling (1st gen CM690) so just want air coolers again. I know this is a cheapskatey question, but is the ASUS Axe any good?

If you wanted to use £400 to get a graphics card as well this would be a good option - my 1055T OC's to 4ghz on all 6 cores with a Gellid Tranquillo

Dont get an amd for gaming >.>
they get beat by intel at every pricepoint for gaming at the moment.

Get the i5 2500k not hear about the Asus Axe but the Gelid really is a top bit of kit at a low price :) I would imagine the 4870x2 is enough for games on med settings atleast at the moment.

You could get a cheaper z68 motherboard like: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-364-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1990 then keep whats remaining of the budget until the new 7000 series cards comeout which is only like 2 months i belive :)

you've already waited this long, whats another few months? the new cards are due out in the next few months.

if you don't plan on going sli/xfire in the future or plan on hitting 5ghz with the cpu the z68ap-d3 suggested by greavesy is a popular choice.

gelid tranquilo is the one to get if you're looking at 4.6ghz, 4.8ghz+ you'll want to get something better(silverarrow is the way to go ~£55).
