A spec me up like no other!

Your words sadden me as bellamy truly is a shocking guitarist, but anything that gets people into guitar is good in my book.

What do you mean when you say 'decent'? In the gutiar world you can spend £200, or £20,000 it all depends how high you want to go :)

hmm i with everything i would not want to go above £500

matt bellamy is a god!

i used to play guitar, that was in year 5 and i only knew how to play kum by ya (MEGA SP need checking) and that was an acoustic

Maybe not too much for that sound, but for his recent stuff, a lot.

First off you'd have to buy another guitar seeing as that's a 7 string he uses in that song.

I adore muse so have been playing all their stuff since I started and it works well, I have a random starter Ibanez Gio rubbish thing and a Zoom GFX-1 effects thing, nothing too fancy. Seems to get the job done enough for some songs, but if you want to fo thing like say Invincible, Map of the problematique then no.

To sound like him, just play a load of the live stuff and get into the swing of it, you'll begin be able to improvise like he does when playing live and that's when I'd class it as "playing like him".

Well that's just distortion and delay/echo which is just an efects amp/multi effects unit and guitar :\

So yeah my best advice would be to learn how to improvise the way he does and get a feel for it before shelling out on effects for the more electronic songs.

There are SO many threads about this, outcome is always the same.

Above all get a guitar you like the look of, you won't want to play it if it you think it looks boring.

Your choices as a beginner will most likely be some sort of Ibanez, a Yamaha Pacifica (best choice) or a Squire of some sort. Squires are very hit and miss. Some are just as good as their fender big brothers and some are total ass. The pacifica is probably the best bet.

Dunno about amp, but get something meatier than 10w, it's just not enough. I went for a 10w crappy ibanez start amp and recently got a marshall 100w cab and 200w head and it has totally blown me away.

Then a cheap but cheerful multifx unit and you'll be away.

Lies. He's a very talented guitarist but definitely not a perfectionist. When he tries he pulls off some great stuff but in a live context he's more about energy than precision.

i wouldnt say he's a talented guitarist in some respects, but he's got creativity! thats what he's got bucketloads of :) and he uses it well on the guitar.

I've read about Matt Bellamy, I've read about his amazing guitar collection but I've never really heard MUSE and Bellamys talent.
Where do I start?

The thing about the live sets is that yes, although they are energetic, passionate and have a really amazing atmosphere they never, ever improvise, ever. Their live performance is simply an exact demonstration of the songs you find on their album.

To me, live performance is all about performance and creativity, not just playing the same songs in the same way all the time.

Ah, that's true, but back in the day this wasn't the case. They rely so much on synths and backing tracks these days it's killed what made their live performances great, seeing them in 2001 it was a completely different story. They would throw in different riffs and jams every show and songs were rarely the same. Now you can sync up the tracks they play live with the CD and it's almost identical.
