My mates daughter had a sudden stroke last Friday at the age of 14! Thank god they live close to Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge and the doctors managed to break the clot lodged in her brain stem up.They did it using a wire inserted in through her groin!
It is going to be a long hard road to full recovery for her. Her speech is slurred, little movement in her right arm and unable to walk un aided.
Amazingly, through all this she has apparently been in good spirits and is a real fighter.
For any of you who do any air rifle target shooting, My local club in shepreth nr Cambridge is holding a shoot tomorrow and money raised will be going towards getting her something to smile about. We have had donations from a large supermarket beginning with T, as well as quite a few other businesses so it may well be worth while:)
My mate is heart broken seeing her suffering but just told me that it is amazing just how many people have sent them all good wishes.
I am just wondering what a poorly 14 year old girl could need that might make life that little bit easier during recovery??? I just hope she makes a full recovery and it does not take years to achieve:(

iPad, nice and easy to operate with one hand if reseted on your knee and if she has some what limited motor skills untill she recovers more might be nice for her... just a thought.

Can keep in touch with her friends via Twitter, Facebook... since having 40 people in a hospital gets frowned upon.

An iPad is a good idea, combine it with a £50 iTunes voucher and she'll have endless amounts of fun :)

Plus her dad can play on it too ;)

Tickets to see favourite band.
Brand spanking new computer (from here of course).
Yeah Disneyland would be cool as long as she'll be okay with rides post-stroke.
Also, something that's made to last - any hobbies that she have?

Very sobering story, but keep fighting girl.

An iPad or a good laptop with a large music voucher is good idea. She could watch dvds on a laptop. She might read a lot so again a Kindle with vouchers would be another one. A pop concert and a trip for when she gets better are excellent ideas.

Nice to see the Mighty T (my employer) still continues to contribute to good causes :)

Best of luck to your mates daughter and her family - hoping for a speedy recovery.

Wow, a stroke at that age must be a horrible experience for the family (and incredibly rare). I hope she gets better soon.

An iPad is a fantastic idea. I've got a cousin with cerebral palsy, who struggles to use a lot of handheld devices, but can use her iPad fine.

This is very sobering to hear :( I hope she makes a full recovery. Disneyland is a good idea, but i also know that girls that age are way into the Apple stuff (my sister is begging for an iPad/macbook pro).

A clot at age 14 is rather unusual, often young folks have bleeds leading to strokes at such young ages.
Hopefully she'll bounce back, really depends on how fast it was broken up and the region that was affected.
