A stupid question - Orange box help

If you had been duped then in all likelihood you wouldn't of been able to register HL2+CSS at all, as they'd probably of already been registered.

I'm guessing the supermarket in question do sell the original HL2 and it was probably an honest mistake on the assistants/noobs part in giving you the wrong disc.

Looking on the bright side, when you install your new copy you'll be gifted with a free HL2 to give to whoever you want (as you'll have 2 tied to the same account). :)

The supermarket in question doesn't sell the original HL2. (their PC section is limited to roughly 10 games all of them 'new' releases).

I havn't registered the copies anyway so that shouldn't be a problem.

But the only problem there is the fact that it is the OLD Half-Life 2 disc, that was discontinued about a year and a bit ago, so they shouldn't even have it let alone be selling it as the Orange Box. Seems a bit fishy if you ask me...

You must have done to install them on Steam, though...

I was under the impression that once they're tied to your steam account (as in the pic you posted above) then they are registered, only playable on that/your account?

they receive thegames sealed and just take the discs out and store them in a drawer until someone purchases it.

I bought a game from a well known highstreet game retailer who do this and was given a game with a disc missing, luckily I checked it when I got outside the store and walked back in got them to give me it. I bought my copy of the Orange Box from steam so I don't have a box.

I'd take it back though and try and get some sort of compensation (such as travel costs) they should pay up without any questions as it's their fault.

Nope I entered no key (I don't have one).

It shouldn't be registered to your Steam account then. I don't quite understand how you got it working, as mine asked for a key to get it working, but that's not the problem currently.

I can't see a problem in getting it exchanged then.

If the item I buy isnt sealed I always check as soon as I get out the store, this applies to cds , games, dvds .
As a number of times the numpties behind the desk have messed up.

That's definately wrong. You should have two disks, both orange fading to black at the top and both shaould have *** Orange Box written on them. Disk 1 should be mounted on the right cover of the case and disk 2 should be in a blue paper cover clipped onto the left cover. You should also have a serial number on the bottom of the quick reference card.

Personally i always watch to see what the person is putting in the box or if i can't see then i check it as soon as it's handed to me.

That disk is normal hl2. Also the "manual2 sheet is from the first box.

Orange box has 2 dvd's and different cd art/manual sheet. If you can, complain

Nope only what I have posted above, The case, the disc (as pictured) and a a quick setup guide (which appears identical to the one that I had come with my original CD copy of HL2 from about 2 years ago)

I can't see any serial numbers on it.

Thats good

all you've done is re-install games you've already got registered to your steam account. This is why its not asked you for your CD key

its using your old one stored in your steam Account so knew you'd already purchased them. Hence, your steam games list shows CS:S and HL2 which you already had

go back to Asda and get em to swap it for the orange box. not the original HL2 he found lieing around at the back of the cupboard. The orange box CD clearly states "ORANGE BOX" on it.

You've not registered anything you shouldnt have, just put a disc in your PC. Straight swap for the correct thing shouldnt be a problem :)

Indeed. All your really paying for when you buy a game is the key (the licence to play). the data is irrelivent, even more so now with Steam, as all you need to do is stick the key from the manual in steam and all the games will show up on your list and start downloading.
