I bought a new power supply. It is fully modular. I'm going to replace my old power supply. Considering I've been building PCs for years and years, have an army of technicians at my disposal etc etc, how hard could it be?
PSU has a "Motherboard" connection but also a "CPU Motherboard" connection.
One end of the motherboard cable is a 24pin ATX header that goes into the motherboard. The other end looks like this.
I plug it into the "motherboard" only hole in the PSU:
Soooo where does the 8 pin thing go? It feels very unnatural to rotate it and plug it into the "CPU" hole, and anyway, I have a 4+4 CPU cable that must go there. The motherboard connector won't go into the "CPU Motherboard" connector as it has a gap between the two connectors. The "CPU Motherboard" connector is the same length, in total as the cable's connector.
So what do I do with the extra pins? Are they for modern the super high end stuff? Is there a new standard come out whilst I've been languishing with my Haswell build?
