Here i am, i open my mail and think wowzers student loan came through then the penny drops into my mind....what if i dont get the grades to get in.... i have to sit here till the end of august to see if i make enough UCAS points.... to see if i manage to get my Resit Maths C....to sit here worrying.....i have been offered a foundation course in Computer and Media that lasts 1 year, and guarentees me a place on the course i want to do, but if i dont get the points to get onto my main course why would then want me on that one....

I dont even know what the Foundation course is all about realy, the description.... is not that descriptive and from what i can tell its along the lines of "To turn a pc on you press this button" has anyone had any experience of this route onto a course? If so please tell me what foundation courses at uni are like, and can you still get a student loan to pay for foundation years? because i am unsure if it counts.... :D

http://www.lincoln.ac.uk/home/courses/dct/foundation/computing/index.asp <is the one i could do

Also what is clearing like? Says on the UCAS letter that if i dont get the place i can try with clearing but i have no idea how that works?

Ah well now thats over, i will head into college for my final lesson, come home do my final bit of coursework, hand it in wednesday.... and sit... twidling my fingers nervously, because now it all rests on "Will i get the grades?" *Shudders*

aaaah this post reminds me of myself when I was in uni, and I think that nearly every student gets like that at some stage dont worry about it and go with the flow ;)

Don't worry too much about the grade, I know at my uni (Portmsouth) loads of people fell short on their grades and still got in. Just give your course a quick call when you get your result (if they are less that expected) to make sure they still want you.

I was lucky enough to recieve a letter on results day morning from Portsmouth congratulating me on my results saying they would be looking forward to seeing me. I did not care what my grades were then.

A foundation course will bring you upto the minimum required level to sart the main course, mature students who dont enter through the UCAS system and are allowed in on life expeririance are often required to do the foundation year if they lack experiance in the nessercary areas. You can get on just about any foundation year with 2 AS levels anyway.

I've known a couple of people on foundation year courses. A lot of the stuff in it will probably be quite known to you, but depending on what university you are going to and how the department is run, the difficulty of the foundation year course will vary. It will likely be of difficulty just above A-Level, but not quite degree level, so you'll need to get pretty good grades overall in the foundation year to get through to 1st year. Don't worry too much about it in foundation year, as you always have summer re-sits if you muck up your foundation year exams.

What kind of grades are they asking of you to get onto the course? You'll probably find they might let you on regardless if you miss the grade requirements by a couple of UCAS points, but it'll again depend upon the department you have applied.

Oh great, just got a letter saying that the Foundation course has been discontinued, but that they want to offer me a Computer Games Course that needs 220 UCAS points to get onto, so now prety much , either A) Get the grades or B) Jump off a tall building

That's pretty rubbish by the uni, maybe you can get onto a foundation course at another uni through clearing perhaps.

Not sure how clearing works, but Lincoln was the only uni offering a foundation course that hada route onto what i want to do..... and im not sure i will get 220UCAS points so looks like im going to burn

There has got to be some universities out there that do a similiar course to what you want to do. The way clearing works is that you'll look through a new big list of courses and universities with places still open, and if you have the required grades for those, you can pretty much get into them instantly, just you have reduced chances of getting into halls of residence in some cases.
