Up until about 3 hours ago my idle temps were cruising around 40-45 (speedfan/realtemp). I started looking at upgrading the stock intel cooler to a better HS so i could progress on to overclocking.
I opened up the case to have a better look at the intel cooler, as i've never actually installed one, and just pushed one of the screws not thinking i'd done anything. I put the case back together and hit the power button. First thing i see is a screen saying there has been a hardware fault and windows cannot start normally (or something a long those lines) Anyway it booted up and i thought i'd check temps to see if anythings wrong, i loaded Core Temp and both cores were hanging around 92! I instantly turned it off and doubled checked BIOS temps to see if they were right. BIOS showed 91!.
After 2 hours of self teaching myself how to actually install the intel cooler i finally managed to get all 4 screws in simultaneously without doing any other damage. (Yes i know its quite bad it took that long to put 4 pins in.) Anyway i booted up and checked temps in BIOS. BIOS showed 29. Which to my relief was a lot cooler then i've seen it before.
I loaded up and checked multiple temperature readings:
Speedfan - 37/34
Real Temp - 37/34
Core Temp - 32/29
I also ran Prime95 because when i ran it before the incident it was reaching temps at 95+,which to my knowledge now is really high, but now under load it peaked at 62/65.
I guess what i'm trying to say is....Is it possible that re-installing the fan has allowed the temperatures to drop a fair bit as opposed to all programs showing faulty temperatures? Noting that the fan was installed properly the first time too.
Sorry to waffle on so much, but i am fairly new to this sort of stuff and wanted to give as much info as possible.
