A theory and I'm wondering if anybody else has had it

A bit of context based on cirumstances first..

I've already posted about transfering my steam library onto external SSD drive (it seems to be working but I'm not too sure about the local files on steam).

Point is, if I can run games from SSd drive, wopuld it work with other software (don't forget I've got my creativity software and the DLC as well but I've only got 256 GB to play around with and windows 11 takes up a big chunk of internal SSD drive).
Has anybody else tried this theory and what were the results?

General consensus is that no, they won't work. They generally have too many files scattered all over with links to them that just get confused if you move them.

Not much harm in trying though, just copy and paste so you still have the original. Smaller apps will probably work fine but bigger ones are likely to break.

It should be doable with symlinks. There's an app called steammover which does this and it should work for most programs.
