A third 24" screen or a 40" 4k screen?

I would suggest LG 21:9 Curved UltraWide 34UC87M. 34UC87M is a curved screen real estate and 3440x1440 UltraWide QHD resolution. This means you do not just have 2.4 more space than two 27-inch 16:9 combined, but whole lot more pixel power.

eh? 2 x 1440p 27" monitors is more real estate than an ultrawide 34". The only thing putting me off of going for a 34" ultrawide is i really dont think they are big enough. I currently just have a 27" 1440p and want a real step up in size and having seen the 34" ultra in the flesh it just doesnt give me that vibe. Hoping for some bigger ultrawides to come out.

I've currently got two 24" 1080p monitors running from a 660GTX. I need some more screen estate for my work and was considering a third 24" screen. However, I'm having problems finding a decent tri monitor stand at a decent price and so was considering a 40" (or thereabouts) 4k screen to replace my current setup as that would give me more desktop space than even three 1080p monitors. Opinions?

More info - I sit about two feet away from my monitors. The monitor(s) will be used mainly for work purposes - multiple spreadsheets open at the same time, multiple scheduling apps open at the same time - all need to be onscreen at once. I'd also do some light gaming though obviously not at 4k resolution.

Make sure you can sit at a distance from it.. 40" is big, very big to put on a desk.

And ofcourse, dont game on it. The blur is going to be horrible.

You commented to make sure you can sit at a distance away, I am curious as to a rough guide what you would imagine being a suitable distance? The same as you would for a 22-24" 1080p, nearer, further away? 1', 2', 3', 9' - just a rough estimate of what you think a golden zone of distance would be?

At the very minimum 80cm away.

Who would sit at the same distance away from a 40" as he would a 22" ? YOu'd be insane.

This is why I asked the question. I use triple 24" 1080p at work and I sit about 24" away, maybe less.

i use a 48" 3840*2160 at home and sit about 24" away, maybe less. The pixel size is almost identical, I split my view up unto 4 1920*1080 logical screens and it is actually easier to use than my triple monitor setup.

I can move my view from farthest point to farthest point easier, move the mouse curser from farthest point and back easier and faster.

Simply put, it is extremely good and there is no need to sit so far away. That said, i would recommend 43" as the ideal size, the 48" does suffer some diffraction at the furthest edge pixels, about 5 or 6 of them but it gives the edges a nice curved look if you are into that sorta thing.

4k@40"+ isnt for the pixel density, but the workspace without bezels.
