Allo all. New rider here, and really think I should get/use some ear protection, and was hoping you could share your experiences/thoughts about what to use?

I assume that I really *should* be using some sort of protection, but also see prices range from a few pence to £100 and above! Yes, I know I've only got one set of ears, but I'm cheap......lol

Do plugs not also drown out needed sounds, sirens, horns, the noise of the engine etc? Would really appreciate your thoughts.

Loving the bike though, still riding in this weather!

Have a read from here :)

My opinion hasn't changed, get proper fitted ones.

Moldex Pura Fit 7700 - I've tried everything since passing in 2007, bar custom made ear plugs, and these are by far the best!

Can get 40 pairs for 8 quid on the rainforest site too - failing those, you can buy a mix and match bag, so can try all sorts

Edit: to answer your other questions - you really ought to ride with plugs imo, as they cut out the dangerous noise levels (I got tinnitus from riding without them initially and it's no joke - my sound of silence is now a constant ringing in my ears!).

They only cut down on the noise levels that will damage your hearing - mainly from wind noise at speed; you still hear everything else, nothing gets missed, so don't worry about that - you can also hear a loud exhaust too.

Mercury Custom Plugs with DEC filters. I have funny shaped earholes so the buds just consistantly get pushed out. Can still hear the intercom as well as sirens and normal conversations.
