The Archbishop of York has said the salaries of top executives "weaken" community life.

Dr John Sentamu said excesses in the financial sector had helped to create huge inequalities in wealth.

The archbishop called for a change of ethics regarding high incomes and the accumulation of private wealth.

He said there was little evidence that high executive pay improved productivity and criticised tax avoidance.

£1 billion a year to run the CoE with £4billion in assets.

I assume he lives a a grace a favour home too and all of his utilities bills are paid for him.

I wonder what his salary is?

Reminds me of the poet guy on newsnight the other night. He was chatting about the church and protests, saying the church should join them as that is what the church has always been about. And there was me thinking the church was always a massively powerful and rich organisation that occasionally gave a care about the common man... Rose tinted glasses I guess...

In fairness if you want someones support it's generally best not to call them names when you're doing so, it's normally a safer bet to flatter them somewhat but occasionally it works if you just insult them and sting them into action.

As for the Archbishops comments, maybe it seems a bit hypocritical but then again maybe he'd quite happily give up the benefits he accrues from his job/calling so asks others to do the same?

Well according to the Daily Fail, bishops (presumably CofE) earned £30-40k pa - the same as the average pole dancer  Naturally the Bishop of York probably gets a bit more than that since it's the second most important diocese - and of course they get to live in a palace. Nevertheless, no-one becomes a clergyman to become rich these days.
