A-Train 8

When did this come out? I was aware of the Japanese version which I never bothered importing as I was worried about compatibility with Western Windows. Also trying to understand a complex game with the primary interface in kanji was a non-starter. (I coped with Densha de Go but a strategy game is another matter!).

I did try the X-Box 360 version and wasn't over impressed but that's largely down to having to use the joypad. If the PC version has a Mouse/KB interface that would be better - I love this type of game, building up a network and seeing the traffic flows develop, working out the timetable and putting on longer trains etc.

Just bought my copy from the same outlet, will install later on.

Bit surprised there's no printed manual (for a full price game) but sure I'll manage with a bit of trial and error!

Got screenies? Is this similar to Railroad Tycoon, in the way you build a rail network, and progress through the ages?

Sort of - essentially it's the latest progression of A-Train which actually pre-dated Transport Tycoon by a couple of years. The last PC version in the west was AIV Networks in 1995, with only a couple of console releases outside Asia until now, just the Japanese market has seen superior PC versions.

As with AIV Networks you have a wider business portfolio than just the transport infrastructure, you're also responsible for seeding city growth so I guess it's kind of TTDLX meets Sim City!
