A USB modem router for vista

Right I currently have a modem router and when I install vista I hooked it up to my PC via ethernet but it refused to work. I even tried it on XP but it doesn;t work.

So the I hooked it up to my PC via the USB cable and installed the XP drivers and worked fine. Just wondering if I could get a router that connects to my PC via usb and works with vista?

USB routers are few and far between - you'd be better working out why ethernet doesn't work.
