After a bit of a scare this morning I'm even more conscious that my expensive software is tied to my Mobo's network chip.

It seems like a smart move to have something else with the same MAC address for if that breaks. Can anyone recommend a USB network adaptor that I can change the MAC address on in such a way that the PC won't know? I do have a D-Link DUB-E100 (see other thread) but even when working the PC knows that its real MAC address has been changed.

Thanks

Bit confused.....

What software would be tied to the motherboard network chip?

Most USB adaptors you can change the MAC Address but not entirely sure what software you on about that is doing this.

Would you just stop. It doesn't matter if you're confused - you don't need to know.

Get off your high horse, you are the one asking for help.

It isn't his fault your OP makes little sense. If you want help then elaborate on what you are asking for without being a **** about it.

I can't think of any specific adaptor that would let you change the MAC. In Linux you can use MACchanger to do it but Im not sure if such a thing exists for Windows.

Asking what the software was is a valid question IMO

I'm telling him not to post because he's following me around the forums posting crap. On his profile he doesn't have a single question to ask or answer to give. He's just bored.

The question makes perfect sense for anyone with more than minimal knowledge about how Windows handles MAC addresses. That's none of you (except maybe J.B), so don't try to involve yourselves.

How could knowing what software it is possibly matter? It's not a valid question, especially coming from someone who doesn't even know that software can be tied to a MAC address.

I don't need to know ? then next time don't ask for help

I'm not asking you am I? I thought you'd have left me alone by now. It may surprise you to learn that not every question is directed at you just because you can read them.

You are asking the whole of OcUK on this public forum when you post this thread. Why are you being suck a stuck up ****, that time of month?

If you want to ask someone specific then message them via Trust, otherwise don't bother posting if you can't accept other peoples attempt to help.

Is this a laptop or a PC with some PCI/PCI-E slots available.

From what I know, it's possible to change the EEPROM on certain Intel cards, however, all the ones I know are internal, not external USB.

But I have to agree with the others here, you've asked a question, then come back with attitude, doesn't really help you on a public forum.

Lexia, Pugeot Planet? They tie to MAC address, and you can spoof MAC addresses in easily in Windows. What do I know though.

Not sure why you being so hostile to those who only want to help.

If you feel someone is annoying you or causing trouble then either block them via your UserCP or report them directly to a moderator for us to deal with.

There's just no excuse for this kind of behaviour which not welcome here
