We are in the process of remodelling our house, supporting wall knocked through and new kitchen nearly installed. Now focusing attention on the lounge.

I'm trying to find inspiration for a sideboard to house my games console and soon to be AV receiver. TV is mounted on the wall within an alcove, so the sideboard would ideally fill or mostly fill said area.

My brother in law has the below, which was from Barker and Stonehouse, paid £1400. It's now discontinued but we've had a price from a local store who makes bespoke furniture. £750 to recreate the below, but in an oak and shaker style effect to match our kitchen style.

Any suggestions for similar AV furniture?

Have a look at http://stumpfurniture.co.uk I called the owner last week and he is designing me a 2.2 metre cabinet to house my dvd,s amp, consoles, players etc for the lounge. We have not hammered out a price but I did say I had a budget of £1500-£2000 and he said that would be more than enough to do the design I wanted in any wood that I wanted.

I looked at dozens of websites for av furniture and I could have ended up buying something worth thousands which is mass produced. Instead I will have a hand made cabinet designed to my specification and in the wood I want which will be the centre piece in my lounge.

Great stuff thanks. I sent off enquiries to various bespoke manufacturers lastnight located anywhere between Yorkshire and Newcastle. I'll drop these guys an email too :)

...some great design ideas on Stump. This is quite far off my original idea but it looks clean and tidy. I only really need a large gap for a AV receiver then another for just one console.

I got the name from AvForums and there are a number of people who rave about his work. When speaking to the owner he asked me where I got his name and he did say that he has had a lot of work through avfourms. You just can't beat word of mouth.

Would be interested to see your designs as I do bespoke furniture and joinery products.

Edit: not touting for work it's just nice to see what the competition charge

It's really give me some inspiration now, I've gotten in touch :)

The design is really per the walnut unit I posted in my original post. However rather than walnut, it would be oak/oak effect hardwood I'm looking for, with the cupboards painted in a shaker style grey.

My local place has quoted £750, I'm getting other quotes back today of £2000 upwards, however I suspect that must be for real oak rather than oiled hardwood with oak effect.

However in honesty, I'm now considering a style like below after wnb kindly pointed me to Stump. Same design, but again oak rather than darkwood.

Might not help but when I was looking for a long, low unit to hold my AV stuff I looked on the auction website. I found exactly what I was after on there.

I wanted something that would go down the whole side wall of the living room where the TV is mounted. It's 11ft long! Had to borrow a mates LWB transit to pick it up. Has three big pull down draws for the AV and two small draws at either end. Wasn't made for AV so used a hole cutter to run the wires.

Probably not as posh or as pretty but £180 and some beers for the van loan I can live with :)
