I'm helping my friend build a new PC next week and he wanted me to double check the specs on this forum to make sure that everything will work together.

I think they will all work fine together, but he just wants to be 100% sure.

Here is what he is getting...

Thanks in advance.

Im sorry to be a bother, but does anyone know? He wants to get this ordered from OCUK ASAP to get next day delivery.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

What's the computer going to be used for?

Assuming gaming, I would suggest dropping the CPU, motherboard and cooler and going i3-2120/z68 motherboard. No need for aftermarket cooling with that setup as theres no overclocking. Any money you save can go towards better graphics (HD6770/6850)

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i3-2120 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £99.95
1 x Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £84.98
Total : £196.33 (includes shipping : £9.50).

This gives your friend lots of options to upgrade later with a i5/i7 Sandybride CPU or ivybridge when they're released Q1 2012. The motherboard also has native USB 3.0 and SATA-6 support for a SSD later.

Also that PSU is bad. Something like this will easily power that system and is very reliable and cheaper,

Edit: I assume you've already got a case? Might look a bit silly if you forget that :p

Im sorry luke but thats a mess.

1) the PSU is awful
2) a i3 21209 is faster at everything.
3) why the SSD caddy?
4) The cooler eats too much of the budget and makes the other parts look crap.

Thank you both for your feedback.

He's decided to get the intel i3 CPU and accompanying motherboard.

Why is the power supply so bad though?

I think because it is a Coolermaster cheapy one, and is not 80 plus either.

The PSU is not a known one, get something like Corsair/Antec.

And would the XFX 450W PSU be powerful enough for this system?

I've just spotted a potential problem,

The motherboard says "2x DIMMs with support for DDR3 1133/1066 up to 16GB MAX" but the RAM suggested is 1600MHz

Will it still work?

well if you have the extra £23 you could go with the gigabyte z68ap-d3(£85), this'll give you the ability to in the future to upgrade to an unlocked cpu(sandybridge/ivybridge) and overclock it(the h61 board will allow you to pop in e.g a i2500k but wouldn't allow you to oc it).

unless you're set on corsair than the antec kuhler give similar performance but is 620 is ~£20 cheaper.
