Ok sorry all, it's another issue I'm having with vista, and it's a PITA!!!

Problem simply is Vista isn't switching focus like it should, switching focus is the best way I can describe it eg; I click in the address bar to type a URL but the cursor doesn't appear there and any buttons/links on the page won't respond.

Also with pop up boxes like 'are you sure you want to close all tabs' or some install programs, I can't move the cursor around to the correct boxes, we'll it moves but it doesn't respond, and no it's not the mouse!

I can work around it occasionally by tabbing around or clicking show desktop and brining the window back to focus about a dozen times, or sometimes logging out and then back in does it, or relaunching IE the next instance of it will work fine, but it leaves me with the first one dead to the world!

Erm, probably enough explaining the problem for someone to diagnose it by now I hope! Its annoying

Never had the problem all I can think of is perhaps a drive issue or something? Did you install the software that came with the mouse / keyboard? Tried updating it? Tried removing it?

thanks for the effort, but its a laptop using the stock drivers, and it happens when using the trackpad and if I plug in a USB mouse :(

Whats the spec of the machine, sounds like the system is struggling to keep up with the OS.

that'd be a no  5500 Dual Core 2gig ram Asus F3JP lappy

it's an intermittant problem, hence realy difficult for me to point to anything in particular :( It's not always done it, but I figured someone might have had a similar driver conflict or something happening, will have to scour some more boards me thinks!

Just remembered something it may or may not help.

In the mouse options theres an option to automatically move pointer to default option in a dialog box - that used to cause problems.

Other than that if it works in everything else other than IE maybe reinstall IE or if you have no data on the laptop refresh the installation?

I should have specified its not just an IE problem, it's a vista one, MSN installing/uninstalling programs any pop up box is sometimes affected :(

I'll get fiddling with drivers and see what comes up! Just seems odd that no one has come across this before, cant be the first!
