Wondering if anyone can help with this one....not even sure if its a windows problem...here goes.

Around every 10-15 mins I get a small white box in the task bar, it only appears there for 2 seconds then it goes. Its very annoying when im gaming as when this happens I get brought back to the desktop. At the moment I only have two games installed, Battlefield 2 (+all expansions) and Oblivion. I can tab back to BF2 but when it happens when playing Oblivion it freezes the game and I have to go into the task manager and end Oblivion.

Some people have said its something checking for something but I dont know what it is and how to find out.

Can no one else help me here??? :(

Is there any software/program I can download that will tell me whats going on behind the scenes?

or you could try filemon which gives you a low-level view of all the program reads and write, but it helps if you know which programs should normally be running. (you can filter out the ones that you know about)

check that all proceses in taskmanager are legit, and check msconfig for anything funny running. do you have a firewall installed (oher than windows xp)?

No I have windows firewall and a firewall built into my router.

maybe worth installing one to see what pograms are trying to connect to the net and block them.

maybe try this :
start - run - cmd - netstat

and see whats trying to connect (though i doubt this way will help).

I had exactly the same thing a couple of days ago. I found out it was the software for the Asus motherboard. Removed the board and replaced it with my old Gigabyte one. That Asus jobbie caused me so much grief.
