Hey.

I brought a OEM copy of windows 7 for my current machine (one im on now)

Im going to be building a new one soon , my question is can i move windows over to the new machine?

Or do i have to buy a new one?

No unfortunately when you installed Windows 7 OEM on PC, it became tied to motherboard so you cannot move it to new motherboard if the original motherboard died or sold off in few years time. You will have to sell bundled Windows 7 OEM with motherboard.

If you had bought Windows 7 Retail and install on PC, it wont tied to motherboard so you can move it to new motherboard when you not used your current motherboard if it either died or sold off.

Give microsoft a telephone call and activate it on the new pc, just tell them you are installing windows on one computer, stuff microsoft, greedy gits.

When you bought the OEM copy you bought it with a piece of hardware. As long as you transfer that piece of hardware, you should be okay.

However, Windows will still need re-activating, and you may need to contact MS.

ive built a new rig and plan to sell off the parts from the old one..so do I have to sell my mobo with the ssd that has my old windows on it or can I erase the ssd and sell them separately ??
