Mainly out of curiosity more so than anything else but do wireless routers go idle, ie stop transmitting their signal when there is nobody connected, or is the signal constantly on even when not being used?
I realise that there must be something transmitted in order for wireless adapters to detect the network in the first place but is this done through a polling system, sort of like the wireless adapter asking is there anybody out there and the wireless router responding?
Ultimately would there be much power savings if the wireless network wasn't being used to transfer data even if the network was being broadcast?
