A1 from doncaster to edinburgh

Put your foot down, if you get speeding fines in the post a few days later it had cameras on it.
The plan is to blame my american cousin who is visiting if I get any NIP's :D

There's loads just before you get to Edinburgh. There's bright yellow one near Berwick but you can see it coming a mile away. Usually there's not much chance of speeding along the single lane part of that road, always some slow bugger holding up traffic and it's not too easy to overtake.

somebody died on christmas day in a head on smash on the single lane bit...there will be policecars all over the place as a knee jerk reaction to this even though somebody dies every month on it...especially as the local mp's are up in arms about it

there are cameras running up to alnwick as well..

it is actually a dangerous piece of road..well the other drivers make it a dangerous piece of road....because people cant be patient and wait for the duel carriage way sections to overtake..they drive up your arse and take stupid risks..and thats why so many people die..even if traffic is moving at reasonable speed there always some daft bugger who will try it on and invariably ends up having to pull in and cut somebody else up to avoid traffic coming the other way

yes it needs to be 2 lanes all the way...but people should show more common sense on the single lane sections

Just to echo what a few others say. I use this road quite a bit.

Quite a few cameras on the latter part of that stretch. All are easy to spot a mile off, If you cant see them your an awful driver.

As for the single bits, plenty of overtaking opportunities... I manage it in my tractor I'm sure you can :)

I disagree with the poster above too, it doesnt need to be dual carridgeway all the way. Would wreck what in places is a really nice road.

actually I do agree with you..I only use it at weekends (to get to my fishing destinations) so avoid all the goods traffic really...and I'm capable of driving on it and appreciating the road rather than having to get to my destination at warp factor 9

sadly lots of other drivers dont take the same attitude..and it makes it dangerous for other road users

and lets be honest..it will take years of disruption to upgrade the road..new bridges would be required in numerous places so its not going to happen quickly if ever at all.for every person that would want it upgraded there would be another person who would protest about it

There is a few around the Berwick area but other than that its fairly clear ;)

That's why we invented 'Gatso Blasting' (see Top Gear magazine about 12 years ago...)

Basically, the cameras around Berwick can be seen from a mile off so you just go at your 'desired speed' until you get to one, slam the anchors on, dawdle through it then get back up to speed.

As for dual carriageways - the A1 needs to be dual all the way up...

...Where they have done it already, if you know the area, you can jump onto the Old A1 that runs alongside it and make better time ;)

Co. Durham = No fixed speed cameras. Only ever seen one scamera van between Darlington and Washington services (just after Chester Le Street before Gateshead).

Thats the roundabout at Peasbay!

:p :D

Edit: Where do you live Penski?

I drive Berwick > Haddington every work day, there's a few to watch out for but its obvious where they are. Just use penski's technique and you'll be fine ;)

Some of them are more sensitive than others it seems, the first one outside of Berwick (on the dual part up the hill) doesn't seem overly bothered about you doing 80mph+ :D

Haddington, eh? Does Fish from Marillion still bomb around there in his old van?

You in hardcore Berwick then?

Should have said - I was up home for xmas, could have grabbed a drink or two :)

Haddington! lol Much better than the Pans!

My aunt owns Tartan Taxis in Tranent which ain't that far from there really. Miss that end of town :D (not...)

No speed cameras in the North Yorkshire area, or there wasn't when I last knew. Every time I go on the A1, I seem to see at least a few police cars though
