A10 5800K only showing 1 core in Task Manager - CPUZ etc Windows 10.

search for

msconfig and run it as administrator navigate to the " boot " tab and on there select advanced options in there you can select number of processors! apply ok and restart!

Alright is the bios up to date?

Yeah latest BIOS, Godavari support etc.

This is really weird, optimised defaults in BIOS does nothing to re enable cores. Task manager shows,

Sockets: 1
Cores: 1
Logical processors: 1

Un- parking does nothing.

In Device manager it can see 4 separate Processors, but seems Windows can only utilize 1 core...

Have you checked on something like Cinebench to see if it can use 4 core in applications? Also in task manager you can change the appearence of the graphs to show all cores ( if it's just set up wrong for some reason ) by right clicking the graph on performance > Change graph to > Logical processors

EDIT : Also has this only happened since a W10 update or has it always been this way. Seems a whole bunch of people have this issue.

Only thing i can say then is it's either the cpu is damaged or the OS is corrupt. possibly regarding hardware abstraction layer.

Could also be worth

1. Running windows repair
2. Trying a fresh windows install.

OS corrupted, I'm guessing he could have messed with something and corrupt the registry.

Re - formatted and properly detecting 2 cores / 4 logical processors..

Oh the joys of being the guy that everyone comes to for PC stuff. Now I have the fun task of re installing all software / apps he wants lol.

I was only meant to be installing his bro's GPU, but then found PC was only using 1 core..

He also needed MBR drive to GPT to get full 3TB HDD, such fun for me :D:rolleyes::p

That one friend that didn't realise his quad core was only using a single core. We all have these friends. Glad it's solved!
