Hi Everyone,

Just looking for a 2nd person opinion who knows a thing or two about low profile cooling.
Im in the process of designing and building my next build with the following specs:

- AMD A10 6700 (65w TDP, plus its faster than the previous Trinity generation 5700)
- Gigabyte ITX Mobo
- Seagate 500GB Hybrid Hard drive
- Streacom FC1 Evo Black ITX Case
- 160W Pico PSU
- Windows 8 Pro

The idea around this build was for a small but reasonably powerful mini gaming PC that i can throw in my bag when Im off to a friends or something, so i don't have to lug my main PC around.

I currently have the case and the Mobo and processor is on order for next week.

Only thing is im having trouble figuring out how I'm going to keep the cpu as cool as possible, whilst maintaining as lower noise levels as possible.

The max height i have is around 42mm for a cooler, and ideally the top of my case is going to be on at all times. I am however open to the option modifying the lid to allow more airflow but ideally i don't want to do this as aesthetically it looks great.

I have settled on 2 different coolers that will both fit, and need some advice on weather these will be enough to cool the APU in this small space. Note the APU will not be overclocked, and will remain running at stock.

The two coolers are:
Zalman CNPS2X (only 27mm tall!)
Scythe Kozuti (40mm tall)

Does anybody have any experience with these coolers?

I have also found some quiet 60mm fans that can help with intake/exhaust of airflow, these are: Nanoxia DS 60mm Fan

I have attached 2 images to highlight my options, but I'm open to more suggestions :D

P.S. The cage inside the case has been completely removed for better airflow :)

I've got the A10-5700 in my media pc with the Scythe Kozuti. Case is the Moneual 320, so a fair bit bigger thsn yours and it does get pretty toasty. Idle temps on desktop were around 45-50C, blu ray playback via mediaportal hits around the mid 50's. Anything more strenuous like a bit of Dirt 3 or running more than a few tasks and it'll get close to 70C and I have seen go past this on a few occasions.

I ended up slapping on a Akasa Apache 120mm which sits on top of the Kozuti, thats dropped temps to around 35-40 when idling and mid 40's at med load. The fan on the Kozuti is pretty small too and doesn't shift much air plus it was very loud at load when it ramps up. Thankfully the Apache has solved that problem now. IMO an A10-6700 would just get too warm in that case with the Kozuti alone, defo need some extra fans in there.

shadow_boxer - Thanks for the advice, iv been looking on the web for people who have similar builds with temp info etc but after searching far and wide (ended up translating a few pages from German) i still couldn't find any info so again thanks for the input - Appreciated.

Well i went with the Scythe Kozuti in the end, should be arriving anytime now, but iv had to rethink my cooling options.

Similar to you i have opted for a slim Scythe 12mm thick 100mm fan that will rest on top of the Kozuti, as well as keeping the 80mm Kozuti fan in place for a kind of 'Push/Pull' effect over the cooler.

I have also booked in a slot at my workplace to use the router to mill out the top of my case so i can insert a 120mm fan grill DIRECTLY above the Scythe Slim fan so it can pull air through the top of the case.

Iv also ordered the low noise 60mm fan to exhaust the air out through the side of the case near the CPU cooler.

A rough sketch with measurement:

Funnily enough if my measurements are accurate, i should have about 3mm clearance from the top of the fan to the top of the case/grill  TIGHT!

Quick question - How did you mount the Apache onto the top of the Kozuti ?
As far as i can see there are no mounting options on the cooler, i was thinking temporarily cable-tying it down, but not sure yet.

HOPEFULLY this should keep the APU as cool as possible. The reason i want to go with the 6700 is purely because on the GPU clock, its faster than the previous gen at roughly the same price. I may even lower the CPU speeds down a tad and turn Turbo Boost OFF whilst maintain the GPU speed at standard, just to help the temps a bit.

:) Will post my temps etc when i can.

Thing is i haven't got the CPU and PSU yet (as there the most expensive things) I'm gonna have to wait until payday to get them :(

So you might get yours before i get mine set up, so post your findings here too! Are you cooling an AMD A10?
