The upgrade of the A14 through Hunts will go ahead but the road will NOT be tolled.

YAY !

Why should us locals be tolled just because the road runs through our area ?
Does Luton pay a toll just because the M1 upgrade runs passed their place ?

Anyway.. On each of the proposals I stated "No Tolls"

Looks like a lot of other people (& businesses) did too

Yay People power.

It's being reported controversial plans to create the UK's first toll road for a decade, on a section of the A14 through Cambridgeshire, are to be dropped.

Improvements to the A14 will instead be paid for by the Government, the Financial Times said.

The toll was a bit silly really, the amount of money it was meant to raise was pocket change in the world of government budgets. At least common sense prevailed in the end.

This thread is fantastic, I don't give a toss about the toll as I don't live there but I've been looking for that picture for ages.

I regularly have to pay toll fees to cross the Humber Bridge to visit the in-laws. Proper double whammy :(

I drove the A14 down to Bedford late Sunday night. Nice bit of road, when there's no traffic.

Good, I paid £475 to the Government for my VED the other day, the least they could do would be to not charge me again to drive on the roads I have supposedly already paid to use.

I have to drive from the A1 down the A14 to Cambridge every day. It's great news that the road is getting upgraded but can you imagine the increased traffic and pain it will cause while it'll be being upgraded!

You've paid for the emissions your vehicle emits, not for use of the roads :p

Not on it, but the A10 was backed up to hell (a.k.a. Soham) because of it. Wish I'd taken the bike today :(.

I stopped using the A14 a few months ago *gloats*

Hopefully by the time I start using it again it will be all upgraded ;)

The sooner this gets sorted the better. And +1 for not toll.

It's a dreadful road at the best of times.

I had the joy of the A14 and the A10 today, 3 hours to travel 72 miles.

The upgrade plan is deeply flawed anyway, no interchange with the A1 and removing the old viaduct at Huntingdon, what are they thinking.

At least we won't get tolled for using it though, bet local council tax will be going up a few % to pay for it though!
